“Not like the movie”

I should’ve read the book before watching the movie but if I’m being honest the movie was better. Still a really sweet and tender book worth reading!

After reading some of the review, I understood that the book will not capture my attention until I am halfway through. So I read on. Half of the book it was until I found the book slightly interesting! The content, events, flow of the book are just too slow for the impatience mind of a 25 years old. The ending barely made my time reading the book worthwhile. My recommendation? Don't expect the book to be an equal to Price and Prejudice and be patient while reading.

While Mansfield Park must rank as one of Jane Austen’s “secondary” novels (after the big three—Persuasion, Emma, Pride & Prejudice), she is at her absolute best in this work in her cogently insightful observations into the nature and complexity of human relationships. In no other novel does Austen delve more deeply into the mind of her protagonist. Fanny Price is shy, introverted, and quiet; she is by no means a shrinking violet or wallflower. She evinces incredible strength. She observes attentively, especially the weaknesses, failings, and ill conduct of others, and ruminates intently on what she sees. But she also realistically assesses what she feels. Fanny is the most rational of the Austen protagonists, and through her perceptive and, may I say, highly moral vision, we see the story unfold, enabling us to learn lessons of great value about staying true to proper conduct in word and deed, gesture and countenance, even when those she loves oppose her. More so, we realize the value of virtue rewarded, and humility properly elevated, by a steady focus on what is true and what is right.

It took about half the book to really get me hooked. It definitely isn't a Pride and Prejudice in terms of a romance that will last in your hearts forever. To be honest, the ending kind of disappointed me- I wish the ending could have had more first hand narration.
